
Lindiwe’s Bio:
Lindiwe Mtimkulu was born and bred in Pretoria. She is an accomplished Attorney at Law who was recently a Divisional Commissioner in the South African Police Services. She is a Graduate from the University of Zululand and obtained a B Juris and LLB.
She served and completed her articles and passed her admission examination at one of the most prestigious law firms in the country, Bell Dewar & Hall, where she was awarded the prize for best performance in the examination by the Johannesburg Attorneys Association.
She started her carrier at the Get a Head Foundation where she was a Legal Services Manager dealing with Public Interest matters and Human Rights issues.
She then served a short stint as a Junior Lecturer at Vista University. It is here where she had a chance to refocus her energy and decide on her career calling.
Her skills for Project Management were developed during her time at the Development Bank of South Africa, where she was appointed as a Project Legal Advisor. She was solely responsible for the negotiations of funding agreements for the provision of infrastructure such as electricity and the recovery of loan repayments. She was in fact recognized for being the Best Negotiator when she attended the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation Fellowship Program 2008/2009 on executive development.
She also has had experience within the private sector. Her first experience was at Telkom, then Medscheme and then Ledwaba Mazwai Attorneys before finding her true passion within government. The most fulfilling part of her career began when she was appointed as special Advisor to the late Steve Tshwete, Minister of Safety and Security. Here she did amongst others: advised him on the exercise or performance of his powers and responsibilities, development of policy and also key legal and constitutional advice.
She was employed in the South African Police Service (SAPS) as a Divisional Commissioner: Legal Services where she was overally in-charge of management and leadership over Legal Services, in the whole of SAPS both at National and Provincial level.
As a mother of two kids, one boy and one girl, she hardly has any spare time for herself, but her selfless nature enables her to take pride in engaging in community work as well as actively participating in church activities.
Her particular passions are Public interest law and human rights law. She truly believes for fighting for justice where there is injustice.
- Awarded the prize for best performance in the admission examination by the Johannesburg Attorneys Association.
- In 2003 she received a Prestige award from Rapport and City Press. Through that award, Rapport and City Press pay tribute to every South African woman who makes a difference with her vision, perseverance and courage.
- She has been selected with 28 other women from around the world and from a very competitive pool of candidates from corporate, government and non-profit sectors from 13 countries (Cameroon; Canada; China; Germany; Jordan; Madagascar; Mexico; Nigeria; South Africa; Spain; Switzerland; Tanzania; and the United States) to attend the International Women’s Forum Leadership Foundation Fellowship Program 2008/2009, on executive development. - Through the fellowship program she has had the honor of attending Harvard Business School, situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts USA.
- She has also, through the same fellowship program, attended at the Judge Business School, at Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
- Harvard Business School and The Judge Business School come highly ranked as some of the world’s top business schools. The schools are considered particularly strong in entrepreneurship and innovation management.
